Basic Pistol

Introduction to Pistol – is a comprehensive, entry-level program designed to introduce participants to firearm safety and marksmanship essentials. This course equips individuals with the foundational knowledge necessary for safe and responsible gun ownership.
In this course we will cover basic firearms safety, fundamentals of pistol shooting (aiming, grip, stance & trigger control), ammunition components, malfunctions, and we will review the core elements of modern pistols & revolvers. We will practice loading and unloading firearms safely. We will cover how to recognize and clear malfunctions. We will discuss and demonstrate proper firearm maintenance and selection criteria.
Classroom Location: Classroom Sessions will vary with each class depending on weather and availability.
Range Location: Walla Walla Gun Club or East End Gun Club, Milton Freewater, OR
Prerequisites: None
Total Classroom Size: Maximum 4 students
Total Time: 3 Hours. There are 2 hours of classroom and 1 hour of range time (depending on class size, range time could be longer).

- Firearm Safety Rules: Students delve into fundamental firearm safety rules, learning how to handle firearms safely, prevent accidents, and respect the power of firearms.
- Firearm Parts and Operation: Participants gain insight into the basic components of firearms and their functionality, which is crucial for safe handling and maintenance.
- Ammunition: This section covers an overview of various ammunition types, selection criteria, safe handling, and storage methods.
- Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting: Core principles of accurate shooting, including grip, stance, sight alignment, trigger control, and follow-through, are explored and are essential for recreational shooting and self-defense.
- Safe Storage and Transportation: Importance of securely storing firearms to prevent unauthorized access and safe methods for transportation to and from shooting ranges are emphasized.
Range Time: Hands-on experience in a controlled environment under the guidance of NRA Certified Instructors allows students to apply their knowledge effectively.
Requirements:
- Ballcap, closed toe footwear, and a high collar shirt. No low-cut shirts please, hot brass can occasionally go down your shirt!
- Eye & Ear Protection – Recommend earmuffs instead of foam ear plugs. If you do not have electronic hearing protection, let us know at registration and we will provide it for you.
