The NRA Basic First Steps Course is a comprehensive, entry-level program designed to introduce participants to the essentials of firearm safety and marksmanship. Regardless of prior experience, this course equips individuals with the foundational knowledge necessary for safe and responsible gun ownership.

Class Size: Limited to 4 Students

Total Duration: 4 Hours – Additional time may be needed to meet specific learning objectives.

Course Content:

  1. Firearm Safety Rules: Students delve into the NRA’s fundamental firearm safety rules, learning how to handle firearms safely, prevent accidents, and respect the power of firearms.
  2. Pistol Parts and Operation: Participants gain insight into the basic components of firearms and their functionality, crucial for safe handling and maintenance.
  3. Ammunition: An overview of various ammunition types, selection criteria, safe handling, and storage methods is covered.
  4. Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting: Core principles of accurate shooting, including grip, stance, sight alignment, trigger control, and follow-through, are explored, essential for recreational shooting and self-defense.
  5. Range Time: Hands-on experience in a controlled environment under the guidance of NRA Certified Instructors allows students to apply their knowledge effectively.
  6. Cleaning, Safe Storage, Transportation and Training Opportunities: Importance of securely storing firearms to prevent unauthorized access and safe methods for transportation to and from shooting ranges are emphasized.

Requirements:

  • .22 Caliber Pistol and ammunition will be provided for the shooting portion of the course.
  • Ballcap, closed toe footwear and a high collar shirt.  No low-cut shirts please. Hot brass can occasionally go down your shirt!
  • Eye & Ear Protection – Recommend electronic hearing protection instead of foam ear plugs.
  • Most Importantly…a willingness to participate and learn!

Pricing:

  • $125.00 Per Student.  The pricing includes all supplemental NRA materials, a beautiful color manual, and NRA certificate of completion.
  • Pistol Use:  The course includes the use of a .22 caliber pistol and ammunition. If you have your own handgun you’d like to use during the class, you are welcome to bring it and your own ammunition to class.
  • Registration must be completed and payment made in full for all courses.  Course fees are non-refundable*.
