The NRA Basics of Pistol Course introduces students to the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for owning and using a pistol safely.

In this course we will cover basic firearms safety, fundamentals of pistol shooting (aiming, grip, stance & trigger control), ammunition components, malfunctions, and we will review the core elements of modern pistols & revolvers. We will practice loading and unloading firearms safely. We will cover how to recognize and clear malfunctions. We will discuss and demonstrate proper firearm maintenance and selection criteria.

Central to the NRA Basics of Pistol Sooting are the NRA Certified Instructors and NRA curriculum. These individuals undergo rigorous training and certification processes to ensure they are adept at imparting knowledge, skills, and values in accordance with NRA standards.   • Classroom Sessions will vary with each class depending on weather and availability.
  • Live Firearm Training: Walla Walla Gun Club or East End Gun Club, Milton Freewater, OR

Prerequisites: NRA First Steps, Walla Walla Firearms Pistol 101 or Equivalent

Class Size: Maximum of 8 Students

Total Duration: 8 Hours – 5 hours of classroom and 3 hours of range time.  There will be a 30-minute lunch break.

Course Content:

  1. Firearm Safety: Comprehensive exploration of firearm safety principles, covering safe handling, loading/unloading, ammunition management, and secure storage.
  2. Pistol Types and Parts: Detailed understanding of Pistol varieties, components, and functionality, facilitated by expert instructors.
  3. Ammunition: Education on ammunition types, components, selection, and safe handling practices.
  4. Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting: Practical instruction on grip, stance, sight alignment, and trigger control, followed by supervised practice sessions.
  5. Marksmanship: Application of shooting fundamentals to achieve accurate and consistent shot placement, with personalized coaching.
  6. Maintenance and Cleaning: Proper techniques for disassembling, cleaning, and reassembling Pistols for safety and longevity.

Certification:
Successful completion results in an NRA certificate, acknowledging your dedication to responsible firearm ownership and safety.

Requirements:

  • Personally owned Pistol with (2) two magazines.  With notice prior to the class, we do have semiautomatic pistols for you to rent.
  • If using your own pistol, it must be cased or in a range bag
  • 100 rounds of factory ammunition
  • Ballcap, closed toe footwear and a high collar shirt.  No low-cut shirts please, hot brass can occasionally go down your shirt!
  • Eye & Ear Protection – Recommend earmuffs instead of foam ear plugs.
  • Most Importantly…a willingness to participate and learn!

Pricing:

  • $185.00 Per Student.  This does not include factory ammunition.
  • Pistol Use: Available with advance notice.  The rental cost is $10.  Factory ammunition must be used in our pistols.  You are free to purchase the ammunition on your own or we can provide at current market price.

Registration must be completed and payment made in full for all courses.  Course fees are non-refundable*. 

*Courses are subject to cancellation based on enrollment/range issues.  In the event of cancellation, refunds will be issued.
